The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water (February 6th)

Regular series voice actors Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown and Bill Fagerbakke are joined by Antonio Banderas, Seth Green and Slash in this second franchise instalment directed by Paul Tibbit. The script – written by SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg, Tibbit, Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger – sees our porous hero embark on a mission to retrieve a stolen recipe, only to find himself on dry land, battling a pirate.

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (February 20th)

While it is not entirely clear why a sequel to Hot Tub Time Machine has gone ahead without one quarter of its original, main ensemble (John Cusack), here it is, nonetheless. With Steve Pink back at the helm and concept originator Josh Heald writing the script, we can at least look forward to some continuity of tone and style, even if the casting is a little strange.
Those that are returning from the original include Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Rob Corddry, Chevy Chase and Collette Wolfe, while Cusack’s spot is filled by Adam Scott – whose character name, Adam Yates Jr. seems to suggest that he is Cusack’s character’s son…

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (March 6th)

Now with added Richard Gere, this follow-up to the popular 2011 film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel finds the cast of the original facing some new challenges as the owner of the hotel (Dev Patel) looks to expand his enterprise to include a second location.
Directed by John Madden and written by Ol Parker, Gere and Tamsin Greig join the returning cast, which includes Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Judi Dench, Penelope Wilton and Celia Imrie.
The Divergent Series: Insurgent (March 20th)

The adaptation of the popular Veronica Roth book series continues, with a second instalment that is directed by Robert Schwentke (R.I.P.D), and written by Brian Duffield, Akiva Goldsman, and Mark Bomback.
Shailene Woodley returns as Beatrice Prior, with Theo James, Miles Teller, Jai Courtney, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet providing support. The story sees Beatrice confronting her inner demons while battling a powerful alliance that threatens the fabric of society.

Monsters: Dark Continent (April)

Set ten years after the events of the first film – Gareth Edwards’ Monsters – this sequel numbers Edwards and original star Scoot McNairy among its executive producers. Starring Sofia Boutella, Joe Dempsie, Johnny Harris and Sam Keeley, it sees the ‘Infected Zones’ of the original spread worldwide, and as a result, the action moves to the Middle East.

There are, apparently, two further sequels planned as well. So let’s hope this one does well.

fast and furious 7 (April 3rd)

The latest instalment in the Fast And Furious franchise is a guaranteed box office hit, just like those that went before it. Directed, this time, by horror maestro James Wan (Saw), it sees Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) seek revenge against Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) for the death of his brother.
Series regulars return, including Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Dwayne Johnson, while it also marks the final screen role of the late Paul Walker. Kurt Russell, Djimon Hounsou, Ludacris and Iggy Azalea also feature.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (April 17th)

Kevin James brings the titular character back – this time becoming embroiled in stopping a heist attempt in Las Vegas while attending a Security Guard Expo. James co-wrote the script with Nick Bakay once again, and Andy Fickman (Parental Guidance) is in the director’s chair.

Pitch Perfect 2 (May 15th)

This is the feature length directorial debut of Elizabeth Banks – who also reprises her role from the original. With the cast returning – including Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson and Alexis Knapp, as well as the writer, Kay Cannon – the story sees the all-female singing group enter an international singing competition that has never before been won by an American team.

insidious: Chapter 3 (June 5th)

After the first and second instalments featured Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as the parental unit of the Lambert family, haunted by an unsettling connection to the spiritual world, Chapter 3 is a prequel focusing on psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye), who also appeared in those initial movies. While the first two were directed by James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell (Saw), Whannell makes his directorial debut here, as well as writing the script.

Ted 2 (June 26th)

The plot – from Alec Sulkin, Wellesley Wild and director Seth MacFarlane – is being kept under wraps, but the second instalment in the Ted franchise has held on to star Mark Wahlberg and lost actress Mila Kunis. Instead, the bear and his buddy are joined by Amanda Seyfried, Patrick Warburton, Richard Schiff, Bill Smitrovich, Dennis Haysbert, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.

Magic Mike XXL (July 1st)

This sequel is essentially the continued adventures of male stripper, Magic Mike, and will be directed by Gregory Jacobs, and written by Reid Carolin and Channing Tatum. Matthew McConaughey does not appear to have returned, but Tatum is joined by Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Donald Glover, Amber Heard, Elizabeth Banks and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Mission: Impossible 5 (July 31st)

Comprised of another top secret plot, this sequel is written by Drew Pearce and Will Staples, and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher). Series stalwarts Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames are joined by Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin, and Paula Patton, as they embark on yet another round of action and espionage.

Sinister 2 (August 21st)

Although Scott Derickson pulled double duty on the first film as writer and director, here he leaves the helming to Ciaran Foy (Citadel), and sticks to the writer’s room with co-scribe C. Robert Cargill. This time out, a young mother and her twins move into a rural house – and if movies have taught us anything, it’s that that is never a good idea.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Legend (August 28th)

A sequel to the Academy Award winning film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, this instalment is directed by Woo-ping Yuen, who was the stunt coordinator for Kill Bill: Vol 2.
John Fusco’s adaptation of the Du Lu Wang book presents a story of love, action and redemption, and stars Donnie Yen, Michelle Yeoh and Jason Scott Lee. It is also notable for being scheduled for release in theatres and on Netflix on the same day.

Maze Runner: Scorch Trials (September 18th)

After the success of 2014’s Maze Runner, director Wes Ball returns with the next instalment, which sees the Gladers outside of The Maze, dealing with a world bombarded by solar flares and decimated by disease. Not a comedy, evidently.

Hotel Transylvania 2 (September 25th)

While the first film established the premise of Dracula having opened a luxury resort for monsters, this second instalment is co-written by star Adam Sandler and Robert Smigel, with the director Genndy Tartakovsky returning. This story features a clash of generations within the resort, and boasts the voices of Sandler, Selena Gomez, Steve Buscemi, Andy Samberg and Mel Brooks, among others.

London Has Fallen (October 2nd)
Olympus Has Fallen featured Gerard Butler as a troubled Secret Service guy who, of course, turns out to be the only man that can save the President of the United States (Aaron Eckhart) when the White House is attacked by terrorists. Inevitably a financial success, writers Creighton Rothernberger and Katrin Benedikt have worked with fellow scribe Christian Gudegast to create this sequel. Attending the funeral of the U.K’s Prime Minister, Gerard Butler’s troubled guy must once again save the day when he uncovers a dastardly plot to assassinate every world leader in attendance.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (October 23rd)

As the directorial debut of Gregory Plotkin, this is the sixth instalment in the Paranormal Activityfranchise. Featuring Katie Featherston – the only performer to appear in each of the movies – the story will focus on the paranormal activities that occur in the Palo Alto home of a young family.

Spectre (November 6th)

Also known as Bond 24, this latest franchise instalment sees Daniel Craig reprise his role as the famous British spy, under the direction of Sam Mendes (Skyfall). The wider cast includes Dave Bautista, Ralph Fiennes, Monica Bellucci, Christoph Waltz, Naomie Harris, Ben Wishaw and Rory Kinnear, and the plot will involve conspiracy, cryptic messages and lots of action. It’s a pretty safe bet to say there will also be some gadgets and flirtation in the mix, too.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (November 20th)

The end is nigh, as director Francis Lawrence ushers the final instalment in the phenomenally successful Hunger Games franchise into cinemas. Fans are promised an all-out revolution, as megastar Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss Everdeen, supported by Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson.

Alvin And The Chipmunks: Road Chip (December 23rd)

You might well ask, “Why?” – and you would be right to do so. This fourth instalment in the Alvin And The Chipmunks franchise shows the series continues to resist collapsing under the stench of the dead horse it’s flogging.

Resident Evil 6 (Release TBA)
The final instalment of this successful female-led franchise sees series regulars Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory and Wentworth Miller head back into the fray with writer-director Paul W.S Anderson. Billed as ‘the beginning of the end,’ it sees our heroes face off against The Red Queen in order to prevent the complete destruction of humanity.
