I’m pretty sure many Nigerians would give an arm and a leg to see the Choc Boiz – M.I, Ice Prince, Jesse Jagz & BrymO – reunited on a track or album. Hear what Chocolate CityCEO – Audu Maikori – had to say to HipTV about the possibility, amongst other things.
“Music labels in Nigeria have now become a norm with almost every music act now having music labels that they are either signed to or ones they established. Some so called music labels have poor structures and financing that they cannot even cater for the basic promotional needs of artistes under them.
This has now become a source of concern and President of one of Nigeria’s foremost music label and entertainment company Audu Maikori of Chocolate city, speaks on issues surrounding this.
“I think that there is a distinction between record labels and music labels, there is a label between having a label imprint and having a proper record management label structure,” he further said that “ultimately the most structured, organized will stand the test of time, if the saturation becomes so much and there is a need for regulation”
We asked if we would see Brymo and MI’s younger brother Jesse Jags who were previously signed to choc city do a studio work with MI and Ice Prince, He says “Break ups and estrangements in this industry is nothing new and what is important is the essence of what brought us together which is music and as long as it is music, there would always be that togetherness”. “Let’s wait, there may be a few surprises very soon.” He added
Meanwhile, MI’s Loopy music thriving well, we quizzed if there is any friction between Choc city and Loopy Music, he quickly debunked the speculation stating that it is all about progression “One of the things Choc City set out to do is to be the mother body and create that platform for others to grow and we have encouraged that actively by supporting their projects”
He further revealed that Choc City would be 10 years this year, adding that a lot of surprises should be expected.”
